Over the past few weekends we have had a bit of vandalism at my school, Lewis Elementary. A Dogwood tree that was planted just outside my office was snapped and stripped of its branches. (The tree was planted in memory of a longtime school neighbor and volunteer...) A Doug-fir that is nearby was also damaged, but should survive. This morning when I came into work I noticed that sometime over the weekend the cretin returned and snapped a very lovely sunflower at the base. I guess in some weird way I can understand why someone would tag a building with graffiti, but for the life of me can not understand what satisfaction someone gets from destroying defenseless trees and shrubs...
