Tom Hoffman and Going to Mars

Tuttle SVC Tom Hoffman comes up with the best line I've heard about the Bush Mars proposal... Of course once we get there, we'll rename the Red Planet

Believe me, I'm as pissed as the next guy that the dream of Space 1999 has been deferred, but the timing on this proposal seems all wrong.

Happy Spam Year...

MSNBC - A year of spam, spyware and worms

A year of spam, spyware and worms Dark side of Internet boiled over in 2003.

If my inbox is any indication, it looks like 2004 is getting off to a good start... Woke up to 6 virus/worm infested emails in my inbox. Looks like it is similar to the Sobig. Most of them came from Intel related addresses, so figure someone I know from my work there last year has a problem.

Fernando Endorses John Kerry...

So tonight, I'm watching C-SPAN. A tape broadcast of John Kerry announcing his candidacy for President. My son, Fernando walks in the room.I tell him this man wants to be President. I ask him if he thinks he would be a good president. He says “Yes...” I ask why, He says “ Old people are good... Right? ” Who can argue with that logic... Kerry in 04!

4th of July on Salmon St.

For as long as we have lived in our house, there has been a 4th of July parade in the neighborhood. A local firetruck comes and as the truck drives slowly through the neighborhood, kids follow behind on bikes, wagons and on foot. Today was no exception. The image above is a panoramic image of the goings on at SE Salmon and 58th in Portland earlier this morning.

Happy 4th of July...

Munich Subway

subway_sm.jpgJust back from a trip to Germany. Took a video clip of the Munich subway on the way out to the airport. Munich has a great subway system... very easy to get around. Click the image above for a video clip... The clip was taken with a Canon S45... a great camera...

A Tale of Three Cities...

The Seattle Times: Pacific Northwest Magazine GO BY TRAIN pleads one.
GO BY STREETCAR urges the other.

Something tells me we're not in Seattle anymore, Toto. No, we're in Portland, American headquarters of the "New Urbanism" philosophy that touts neighborhood density, walking and transit over the car. Portland is doing, almost routinely, what Seattle keeps dreaming and arguing about.

I have been traveling for a few weeks... came across this article about Portland and am now even more homesick... :-) Is always nice when someone confirms what you already knew to be true... now if we only could fund our schools properly...
